Blue Fish Scale Cake Plate
$ 42.11
Samuel Alcock (1822-1859 Staffordshire England) was one of our most prominent 19th century potters and his rare china wares are sought after by collectors worldwide. Alcock bone-china is of good quality , well potted and often very richly decorated. In 1833 the factory employed more than 400 people and their 20 kilns equalled those in use by Minton. Most of Alcock’s useful porcelains of 1830-40 are unmarked that is why the firm is so little known. This wonderful Regency set has been hand decorated with blue enamels imitating a 14th century Chinese fish scale design. The cups have a moulded rim with a rustic bean handle and are hand decorated with garlands of flowers both inside and out to match the highly decorated saucers. Please refer to Berthoud’s compendium of British cups. Cake plate – 24,5 cm diameter. Excellent condition, no damage, normal wear.
