Red Chief’ is perhaps the best red flowered Californian poppy with brilliant glossy fiery red flowers for many months during spring and summer. Sprinkle seed on the surface of the garden. When to sow: Spring Where to sow: Direct sow Depth to sow: 3 to 5mm or sprinkle on the soil surface Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible. Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Spacing: 15-25cm Directions: An easily grown annual best planted by thinly sprinkling the seed in the garden during spring. It will germinate grow and produce its flowers in 6 to 8 weeks. This poppy is happy in any sunny position, even parts of the garden with poor soil. It is both heat and drought tolerant. Once established it will self sow each year.
